Patient guide
Patient guide to travelling to Azerbaijan
Everything you need to prepare before the trip, from the visa and documents to medicines and arrival. Your coordinator checks each point for your passport and your treatment.
Information checked in October 2026. Rules may change, so we confirm them for every trip.
Visa and entry
Entry rules depend on your citizenship. Before you book a flight, your coordinator checks the requirements for your passport.
Citizens of Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye and a number of other countries can enter without a visa, in most cases for up to 90 days. The full list is published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Most other nationalities apply online for an ASAN e-visa. The standard visa is usually issued within 3 working days and the urgent one within 3 hours. It allows a single entry and a stay of up to 30 days.
If the treatment or recovery may take longer than your permitted stay, tell us in advance. We plan the dates so that you stay within the rules.
Apply for the e-visa only on the official portal evisa.gov.az. Other websites that look similar may charge extra fees.
Your passport should remain valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from Azerbaijan.
Registration at the place of stay
- 1
If you stay in Azerbaijan for more than 15 days, you must be registered at your place of stay with the State Migration Service. For citizens of Kazakhstan this applies after 30 days.
- 2
Registration must be completed within 15 days of arrival. It is usually submitted by the hotel or the owner of the accommodation, and you can also apply yourself. There is no state fee for registration.
- 3
If you move to a new address, for example from Baku to a resort, registration at the new place must be done within 5 working days. Your coordinator checks that it has been done.
Documents to take with you
Valid for at least 3 months after your departure, with a printed e-visa if you need one.
Recent reports, test results, scans on a disc or USB and discharge summaries. Originals and copies if possible.
Names, doses and prescriptions for everything you take regularly.
A regular travel policy usually does not cover planned treatment, but it is useful for unexpected situations during the trip.
The plan and written estimate you received from us, printed or on your phone.
The phone number of your coordinator and of a relative at home.
Documents do not need to be translated in advance. We arrange translation for the doctors.
Medicines
- Bring enough of your regular medicines for the whole trip and a few extra days.
- Keep them in the original packaging, together with the prescription or a doctor's letter.
- Some strong painkillers and psychotropic medicines are controlled. Tell your coordinator in advance if you take them, and we will check what documents are needed.
- Do not stop or change any medicine before the treatment unless your doctor tells you to.
Arrival and daily life
Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a sign and takes you to the hotel or the clinic.
Azerbaijan uses GMT+4 all year round.
The local currency is the Azerbaijani manat. Bank cards are widely accepted in Baku. In the regions it is useful to have some cash.
A local SIM card can be bought at the airport or in the city with your passport.
Sockets are type C and F, 220 volts, the same as in most of Europe and the CIS.
Summers are hot and dry, winters are mild. Baku is often windy, so a light jacket is useful in any season.
The single emergency number in Azerbaijan is 112, and the ambulance can also be called on 103. Then call your coordinator.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a special medical visa?
No. Patients enter on the same terms as other visitors, either without a visa or with an ASAN e-visa. If your stay may exceed the permitted period, we plan this in advance.
Can a relative travel with me on the same terms?
Yes. Companions follow the same entry rules according to their own citizenship. We check the requirements for each person travelling.
Who registers me if I stay longer than 15 days?
Usually the hotel or the owner of the apartment submits the registration. Your coordinator makes sure it is done on time, including when you move to a resort.
What should I wear to the clinic?
Comfortable clothes that are easy to take off and put on. For surgery or procedures the clinic gives specific instructions in advance.
