Entry and stay

  1. 1

Citizens of Pakistan need a visa for Azerbaijan, and it must be obtained before travel, because there is no visa on arrival. The usual option is an electronic visa from the official ASAN Visa portal evisa.gov.az. A standard e-visa is usually issued in about 3 working days, or in about 3 hours with urgent processing. It allows one entry and a stay of up to 30 days, and the state fee is 20 US dollars. Pakistani official guidance recommends applying at least 5 days before you travel.

  2. 2

For treatment you can also apply for a medical visa at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Islamabad. In this case the Azerbaijani clinic sends an invitation through the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and applications connected with urgent treatment are usually processed within 2 working days. Your passport should be valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from Azerbaijan.

  3. 3

Changing the type of visa or extending a stay in Azerbaijan is usually not allowed, so the full length of the treatment should be planned before you apply. If the treatment may take longer than 30 days, please tell us early, so that your coordinator can help you choose the right visa from the start.

  4. 4

If you stay longer than 15 days, you must register at your place of stay with the State Migration Service within 15 days of arrival. Usually the hotel or the resort submits it, and your coordinator checks that it is done.

  5. 5

Entry rules can change, so your coordinator confirms them before every trip. The Embassy of Pakistan in Baku can help Pakistani citizens with consular matters during the stay.

Getting to Azerbaijan

Direct flights to Baku leave from Lahore, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), PIA and Airblue, and from Islamabad, operated by AZAL. There is no direct flight from Karachi at the moment, so travellers from Sindh can fly via Lahore, Islamabad or with a connection. A direct flight takes about 3.5 to 4 hours. Frequencies change with the season, so your coordinator checks the current options for your dates. Our driver meets you at Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku.

Money and payments

  • The local currency is the Azerbaijani manat, which is held at about 1.70 per US dollar. Pakistani rupees cannot be exchanged in Azerbaijan, so please bring cash in US dollars and exchange it at the airport or at a bank in Baku.
  • Visa and Mastercard cards work in Azerbaijan. Pakistani banks set their own limits for card payments abroad, and some cards must be enabled for international use first, so please check this with your bank before travelling.
  • Your coordinator advises on the payment options for treatment and services in advance, and you receive a written estimate before you travel, so you know what to prepare.
