Typical figures. The exact plan is confirmed by the treating doctor after the medical review.

Laser vision correction and cataract surgery in Azerbaijan are usually planned as a short trip, often three to five days in the country. MedAzerbaijan coordinates the whole visit with licensed eye clinics, from the first review of your records to the follow-up after you return home. Retina and glaucoma cases are reviewed individually.

We are a coordinator, not a medical institution. Before you travel, an ophthalmologist at a partner clinic looks at your documents and suggests a preliminary plan, and you receive a written cost estimate. The final choice of method is made by the treating doctor after a full eye examination in the clinic, because suitability depends on measurements taken there.

Who this may suit

  • Adults with stable myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism who want to depend less on glasses or contact lenses
  • People with cataract that affects reading, driving or other daily activities
  • Patients with diabetic retinopathy, macular disease or other retinal conditions who need a specialist assessment
  • People with glaucoma or raised eye pressure who would like their treatment reviewed
  • Anyone who wants a detailed eye examination before deciding on surgery

What we can arrange

The list below shows the most common requests. The doctor recommends the right option after reviewing your documents.

01

Laser vision correction

Laser techniques such as LASIK, PRK or lenticule extraction reshape the cornea to reduce myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. The doctor chooses the method after measuring the thickness and shape of the cornea.

02

Cataract surgery

The clouded natural lens is removed through a small incision, usually by phacoemulsification, and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens. The type of lens is discussed with the surgeon in advance.

03

Lens implants

For people who are not suitable for laser correction, an implantable lens or lens replacement may be considered. This is decided only after a detailed examination.

04

Retina treatment

Diagnosis and treatment of retinal tears and detachment, diabetic retinopathy and macular disease, using laser, intravitreal injections or vitrectomy where indicated.

05

Glaucoma care

Assessment of eye pressure, the optic nerve and the visual field, followed by treatment with drops, laser or surgery depending on the stage. Glaucoma also needs long-term monitoring at home.

06

Diagnostic eye examination

A comprehensive examination with OCT, corneal topography and other measurements. It is useful on its own or as the first step before any procedure.

Frequently asked questions

How long before the examination should I stop wearing contact lenses?

Contact lenses can temporarily change the shape of the cornea, which may affect the measurements. Clinics usually ask patients to stop wearing soft lenses for several days before the examination and rigid lenses for longer. The exact period is confirmed by the clinic when your visit is planned.

Can I fly home soon after the procedure?

After laser correction or cataract surgery most patients can usually fly within a few days, once the doctor has checked the eye at a follow-up visit. After some retina operations in which a gas bubble is placed in the eye, flying is not allowed until the gas has fully absorbed, and this can take several weeks. The treating doctor gives you clear instructions before you leave.

What if I am not suitable for laser correction?

Suitability is decided by the doctor after the examination in the clinic. If laser correction is not recommended, the doctor may discuss other options such as lens implants, or advise that no procedure is needed. You are never obliged to go ahead with any treatment.

Are both eyes treated at the same time?

In laser correction both eyes are usually treated on the same day. Cataract surgery is often done one eye at a time with a short interval in between, and the surgeon decides the schedule. We plan the length of your stay according to this decision.
