Typical figures. The exact plan is confirmed by the treating doctor after the medical review.

General surgery in Azerbaijan covers laparoscopic operations on the abdominal organs, hernia repair, gallbladder removal and bariatric surgery for severe obesity. Vascular surgeons treat varicose veins with minimally invasive methods, and proctologists treat haemorrhoids. Operations take place in licensed clinics with modern operating theatres. Through our partner clinics we work with surgeons who explain the plan with the help of an interpreter.

The process starts with your ultrasound, scans and medical reports. The treating surgeon reviews them and suggests a preliminary plan, and we send you a written cost estimate before you decide. The surgeon confirms the final plan only after examining you in person. We organise the visa, transfers, accommodation and interpreter, and arrange follow-up with the surgeon after you return home.

Who this may suit

  • Patients with gallstones that cause attacks of pain or inflammation
  • People with an inguinal, umbilical or ventral hernia
  • Adults with severe obesity who have not succeeded with diet and exercise and are ready for lifelong follow-up
  • Patients with varicose veins or haemorrhoids that cause symptoms
  • Patients advised to have an operation who would like a second opinion

What we can arrange

The list below shows the most common requests. The doctor recommends the right option after reviewing your documents.

01

Laparoscopic surgery

Operations on the abdominal organs through several small incisions using a camera and fine instruments. Compared with open surgery it often means less pain and a shorter hospital stay, but the surgeon decides which method suits your case.

02

Gallbladder removal

Laparoscopic removal of the gallbladder is the usual treatment for gallstones that cause attacks of pain or inflammation. Many patients go home one or two days after the operation.

03

Hernia repair

Inguinal, umbilical and ventral hernias are repaired laparoscopically or through an open incision, usually with a mesh that strengthens the abdominal wall. The surgeon chooses the technique after examination.

04

Bariatric surgery

Sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass for severe obesity, especially when it is combined with diabetes, high blood pressure or other related conditions. A multidisciplinary assessment comes first, and follow-up is lifelong.

05

Varicose vein treatment

Vascular surgeons use endovenous laser or radiofrequency ablation, sclerotherapy and, when needed, traditional surgery. The choice depends on a duplex ultrasound of the leg veins performed in Baku.

06

Haemorrhoid treatment

Depending on the stage, the doctor may suggest conservative treatment, minimally invasive procedures such as ligation or laser treatment, or surgery. Many procedures do not require a long hospital stay.

Frequently asked questions

How long should I stay in Azerbaijan after surgery?

It depends on the operation. After hernia repair or gallbladder removal many patients stay about five to seven days, and after bariatric surgery about ten days to two weeks. The surgeon confirms the timing and decides when it is safe to fly.

When is laparoscopic surgery in Baku possible?

Gallbladder removal, most hernia repairs, bariatric operations and many other abdominal procedures are usually performed laparoscopically. In some cases the surgeon may choose an open approach or switch to it during the operation for your safety. The method is decided after examination.

When should the trip wait?

Planned surgery is postponed if you have an acute infection, uncontrolled diabetes or blood pressure, or a recent heart problem. Sudden severe abdominal pain, a hernia that cannot be pushed back or signs of a blood clot need urgent care at home, not a planned trip.

What happens after I return home?

You receive a discharge summary with a translation into English or Russian and a recovery plan. We stay in touch, pass your questions to the surgeon and can arrange remote follow-up consultations. Wound checks can usually be done by a local doctor.
