Laparoscopic gynaecological surgery in Azerbaijan is performed at licensed clinics in Baku by gynaecologists. Laparoscopy uses a camera and fine instruments inserted through small cuts in the abdomen, while hysteroscopy examines the inside of the uterus through the cervix without any cuts. These methods are used for fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis and polyps, and sometimes to look for causes of infertility before IVF.

You send your ultrasound or MRI reports, and the gynaecologist gives a preliminary opinion. We then prepare a written cost estimate before you travel. The plan, including whether fertility can be preserved, is confirmed only after examination in Baku. MedAzerbaijan is a coordinator, not a clinic, so we organise transfers, accommodation and an interpreter, plan the dates with you and stay in touch after you return home.

Who it may suit

  • Women with uterine fibroids that cause heavy bleeding, pain or pressure
  • Those with ovarian cysts that persist or grow on repeat ultrasound
  • Women with suspected or confirmed endometriosis and pelvic pain
  • Patients with polyps or other changes inside the uterus found on ultrasound
  • Women preparing for IVF whose doctor advises checking the uterus or fallopian tubes first

How the procedure is organised

  1. 1
    Review of your scans

You send pelvic ultrasound or MRI reports, recent tests and letters from your gynaecologist. The doctor gives a preliminary opinion, and we prepare a written cost estimate so that you can decide calmly.

  2. 2
    Timing the trip

Hysteroscopy and some other procedures are often planned for a particular phase of the menstrual cycle. We agree the dates with the clinic so that your trip fits this timing.

  3. 3
    Examination in Baku

The gynaecologist examines you and repeats the ultrasound, and you have blood tests and an anaesthetist assessment. The extent of the operation is discussed and agreed with you in advance.

  4. 4
    Surgery day

Laparoscopy is done under general anaesthesia. Hysteroscopy is often a short procedure under sedation or general anaesthesia, and many women go home the same day.

  5. 5
    Check before flying home

The doctor checks your recovery and the small wounds and confirms when it is safe to travel. Removed tissue is sent for examination, and the result is shared with you.

  6. 6
    Follow-up at home

You receive a discharge summary in Russian or English. We pass your questions to the gynaecologist and can arrange a remote consultation to discuss the tissue result and next steps.

What the cost depends on

The cost of laparoscopic gynaecological surgery is calculated individually. It depends on the diagnosis, the type and extent of the operation, the anaesthesia, the hospital stay and the tests needed beforehand. After the gynaecologist reviews your scans, we send you a written estimate before you travel, so you know in advance what is included.

  • Type and extent of the operation
  • Anaesthesia and the hospital stay
  • Tests and scans before surgery
  • Examination of the removed tissue
  • Accommodation for you and a companion

Recovery and the trip home

  • Mild abdominal pain and shoulder discomfort from the gas used in laparoscopy are common for a few days.
  • After hysteroscopy most women return to light activities within a day or two, and after laparoscopy usually within one to two weeks.
  • Lifting, intense exercise and sexual activity are usually postponed for several weeks, as the gynaecologist advises.
  • Flying home is usually possible a few days after surgery, but the doctor decides and explains how to reduce the risk of blood clots.

Frequently asked questions

Can fibroids be removed by laparoscopy in Baku?

Often yes, depending on the size, number and position of the fibroids. Fibroids growing into the cavity of the uterus are usually removed by hysteroscopy, while very large ones may need open surgery. The gynaecologist decides after reviewing your ultrasound or MRI.

How much does hysteroscopy or laparoscopy cost?

The cost depends on the diagnosis, the type and extent of the operation, the anaesthesia and the hospital stay. After the gynaecologist reviews your scans, we send you a written estimate before you travel. This way you know in advance what is included.

Is it reasonable to have gynaecological surgery abroad?

Many women do so after careful planning. Your records are reviewed in advance, the tissue result is shared with you, and we arrange follow-up with the doctor so that your gynaecologist at home is kept informed. You can also book an online consultation before travelling, and the decision is always yours.

Will the operation affect my fertility?

Gynaecologists usually aim to preserve the uterus and ovaries whenever this is medically possible. Tell the doctor about your plans for pregnancy before surgery. After fibroid removal the gynaecologist advises how long to wait before trying to conceive.

When should surgery wait?

Pregnancy must be excluded before any procedure. Surgery may also be postponed during an acute pelvic infection, with very low haemoglobin that needs correction first or with an uncontrolled chronic condition. Please tell us about such situations in advance, and the doctor will decide.
