Scalp psoriasis treatment in Azerbaijan
Dermatologist assessment in Baku and, in a calm phase, a Naftalan course for psoriasis of the scalp.
Scalp psoriasis often shows as thick silvery scales, red patches along the hairline and behind the ears, and itching that makes hair care difficult. Hair makes ordinary creams hard to apply, so scalp products usually come as lotions, gels or shampoos. The condition can look similar to seborrhoeic dermatitis, and a dermatologist examines the skin to tell them apart, because the treatment differs.
In Azerbaijan the plan usually starts with a dermatologist in Baku, who may prescribe scalp treatment and advises whether a Naftalan course at the resort makes sense once the skin is calm. The resort physician decides on a course after an examination, and evidence for Naftalan is limited. We review your reports and photos, send a written estimate and arrange the visa, transfers, accommodation and an interpreter.
Treatment options in Azerbaijan
Scalp examination by a dermatologist
A dermatologist in Baku examines the scalp, hairline, ears and the rest of the skin, confirms whether the changes are psoriasis or seborrhoeic dermatitis and reviews what you have used so far.
Medical treatment with scalp products
Options may include medicated shampoos, lotions or gels for the scalp, sometimes together with products that soften and lift thick scales. The dermatologist chooses them, explains how long to use each one and decides whether more extensive psoriasis needs other treatment.
Naftalan course in a calm phase
Outside an acute flare, and only if the resort physician allows it, a Naftalan course may be added. The physician decides after an examination which procedures suit the scalp and which suit other areas. Evidence for this method is limited and results vary.
NaftalanPsoriasis on other areas of the body
Scalp psoriasis often goes together with plaques elsewhere or with joint complaints. Our main psoriasis page explains how a dermatologist visit and a Naftalan course are planned for the skin as a whole.

Frequently asked questions
Does scalp psoriasis cause hair loss?
Hair may shed in areas with thick plaques, especially when scales are pulled off or the scalp is scratched hard. This is usually temporary, and hair often grows back once the inflammation settles. The dermatologist examines the scalp and confirms whether anything else is contributing to the hair loss.
What is sebopsoriasis and how does it differ from seborrhoeic dermatitis?
Sebopsoriasis is a term used when features of psoriasis and seborrhoeic dermatitis on the scalp overlap or are hard to tell apart. Psoriasis plaques are usually thicker, with clear borders and silvery scales, while seborrhoeic dermatitis tends to have greasy, yellowish flakes. The dermatologist makes the distinction after an examination, and the choice of products depends on it.
Can Naftalan help with scalp psoriasis?
Naftalan is traditionally used for chronic psoriasis in Azerbaijani resort medicine, and some patients report less scaling and itching after a course. Evidence is limited and results vary. A course is considered only outside a flare and when the resort physician allows it, and it does not replace the scalp treatment prescribed by your dermatologist.
How long should I plan to stay?
A dermatologist visit in Baku usually takes 1 to 2 days. A Naftalan course usually consists of 10 to 14 days of procedures, and the resort physician confirms the plan. Many doctors in Azerbaijan speak Russian, and we arrange an interpreter for other languages. You can also book an online consultation with a doctor before travelling.
How much does scalp psoriasis treatment cost?
The cost depends on whether you need a dermatologist visit only or also a Naftalan course, on the procedures prescribed, the accommodation and the transfers. After reviewing your reports and photos we send a written estimate that lists everything included, so you can decide before booking.
